Coming into Sunday’s game in London, Eagles rookie running back Josh Adams had 18 snaps this season. He doubled that at Wembley Stadium.
Adams got 18 snaps (29 percent) and he made the most of them. He carried the nine times for 61 yards. Both were highs for the team on Sunday and career highs. Of course, Adams almost had a terrible fumble … butt he didn’t.
On 36 of Adams’ career snaps now, he’s gotten the ball 21 times (one catch).
As for the rest of the running back rotation, Wendell Smallwood led the way with 31 snaps. He had eight carries for just 24 yards, but had that big 36-yard touchdown catch on a screen pass.
Corey Clement is the odd man out right now. He got just 13 snaps. He had four carries for six yards. In his last two games, Clement has 12 carries for 12 yards.
Other offensive snap counts
- Isaac Seumalo, Brandon Brooks and Carson Wentz played all 62 offensive snaps. Jason Kelce missed just one after getting hit in the Crown Jewels.
NFL
Jason Peters played 43 of 62, missing some time while he got checked for a concussion. Lane Johnson played just seven snaps before hurting his knee; Big V played 55 snaps.
- Nelson Agholor (57 snaps) and Alshon Jeffery (54 snaps) barely left the field. Jordan Matthews is the third receiver right now. He played 34 snaps (55 percent), but had his best game — 4 catches, 93 yards — since early in 2016.
- Josh Perkins played just seven snaps and Shelton Gibson played just two, but both guys had key blocks on different touchdown plays. I love seeing that effort from guys who aren’t even playing a ton.
Defensive snap count notes
- Avonte Maddox, Malcolm Jenkins and Jordan Hicks didn’t leave the field, playing all 64 snaps. Hicks is 506/506 this year.
- Dexter McDougle is playing too much. He played 58 snaps (91 percent!) of the defense’s snaps. I guess they were out of options when Jalen Mills went down, but this is too much for McDougle. I get that the Jags forced the Eagles into nickel, but McDougle had a bad game. The only other option the Eagles would have had yesterday was to put Avonte Maddox at nickel and Tre Sullivan as the single-high; that’s not ideal.
The Eagles need to get Sidney Jones back soon because I wouldn’t even be willing to move Maddox to nickel when Corey Graham gets back. He’s too good back there. I keep saying I’d use Mills in the nickel on passing downs and Rasul Douglas outside, but Jim Schwartz thinks Mills is better outside and has refused to move him.
- Speaking of Mills, he played 23 snaps before he hurt his foot early in the third quarter. Douglas came in and played 42 snaps, tying his highest number of the season. He seemed to play well.
- So much for Josh Sweat’s taking an increased role. He played just four snaps as the Eagles went with a three-man DE rotation in their first game without Derek Barnett. Michael Bennett led the way with 55 snaps (86 percent), followed by Brandon Graham (51 snaps) and Chris Long (40 snaps).
