Each week during the season, I go through the Eagles’ media guide to find one interesting fact about a player and ask them about it.
This week, I talked to safety/special teamer Rudy Ford about what he’s “surprisingly good at” — cooking.
DZ: It says you’re good at cooking. Is that true?
RF: Yeah, I definitely am. I like to watch a lot of cooking shows. And I like to eat, so I like to make some nice gourmet meals.
DZ: Did someone teach you or did you teach yourself?
RF: I just learned growing up. My mom, she was always in the kitchen. I’m always hungry. I just learned.
DZ: What’s your specialty?
NFL
RF: Specialty? Um, I can do a lot. I like making a lot of different pastas because you can mix up the sauces and stuff like that. That’s just kind of what I like.
DZ: Do you cook for other people?
RF: Yeah, I do. It just all depends. But I do. It just depends on what kind of dish. I do, like, healthy dishes. I like salmon, halibut. I know how to do it all, put it together. My favorite cooking show is “Chopped.”
DZ: (Far too excitedly) Oh, yeah, I love that show!
RF: I love that show because you gotta take special ingredients but they always have to make the dish with creativity and always gotta make it look good. You gotta garnish it really good. I like doing that with the presentation.
DZ: How do you think you would do on the show?
RF: Me? I would do good. I think I would do great.
DZ: I always thought that would be a fun thing to do with friends, just put all the stuff in the basket and do your own show like that.
RF: Yeah, shoot, man, I’m all for it.
DZ: Thank you, man.
RF: Yeah, sure.
