The Eagles opened up as 4.5-point home favorites over the Bears.
The referee for this game is Craig Wrolstad. In five games with Wrolstad as the ref, the Eagles are 3-2. In those five games, the Eagles have been penalized 35 times for 245 yards and their opponents have been penalized 29 times for 289 yards.
Revenge of the Double-Doink
The last time these two teams met was in the wild card round last January. The Eagles were able to get out of Chicago with a 16-15 win as Cody Parkey’s game-winning field goal from 43 yards out was tipped before it hit the left upright and then the crossbar. Believe it or not, the Bears come into this game with kicking issues again.
Neither team is off to a great start this season. The Eagles are 4-4 and the Bears are 3-4 after losing their last three straight to the Raiders, Saints and Chargers.
One more before the bye
The Eagles got a huge win over the Bills in Buffalo last week in terrible conditions, but they can’t let up now. This is their last game before their bye week. Being 5-4 at the bye after everything the team has gone through, and with plenty of injured players getting healthy, would mean a lot. In his postgame speech after the Bills win, Pederson’s message to the Eagles was that they had to give their all for the next seven days. It might have felt like a relief to get that 31-13 win, but it won’t mean much if the Eagles come home and lose to the Bears. And remember, the Patriots and Seahawks will be waiting for them after the bye.
Bears are reeling
The Bears still have a good defense but they haven’t been forcing turnovers at the same incredible clip they were last year. And they might have a real problem at quarterback. When Chase Daniel seemed to be just as able to run the offense as franchise quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, there might just be a problem. After starting with a 3-1 record, the Bears have dropped three straight, including two after the bye week. They lost the the Saints on Oct. 20 and the Chargers last week.
