Film Review: DeMarco Murray dominates 3rd-quarter TD drive

DeMarco Murray had his biggest day of the season last Sunday against the Giants, rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.

But his biggest series came in the third quarter. On that drive, he carried the ball five times for 41 yards and capped it off with a 12-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 24-7. It's also important to note that every play in the drive came with Sam Bradford in shotgun.

Here’s a look at that drive for Murray:

On his first run of the series, Murray lined up to Bradford’s left in shotgun and ran the ball right. There wasn’t much room to work with but he didn’t dance in the backfield. He took the small hole and turned it into a positive four-yard gain.

For reference, this is the same drive that was extended thanks to a running into the kicker penalty on fourth down when the Eagles were trying to punt the ball away.

Murray made the Giants pay on the very next play.

On this snap, Murray lines up to Bradford’s right in shotgun and again runs across the ball. This time, there’s nothing up the gut.

But Murray has the vision to see some space outside and once corner Trevin Wade comes hard at the line, Murray has room toward the sideline. Miles Austin has a nice block out wide and Murray has an 11-yard gain.

On the very next play, Murray ran right but couldn’t find an opening. That was a three-yard gain.

But three plays later, on 2nd-and-4, he finds more space. This was just an outstanding job of blocking by the offensive line to create a huge hole. He wasn’t touched until he was seven yards down field.

And then credit Murray for running hard at the end with a full head of steam. By the end of the play, it took four Giants to bring him down after another 11-yard gain.

After that run, Ryan Mathews came in for two snaps but Murray returned after a short breather.

On Murray’s touchdown run three plays later, at first it looked like he was bottled up. But he found his way out of the tight space, then used a stiff arm to find his way into the end zone on the 12-yard scoring play.

On this drive, Murray picked up 41 of his 109 yards. It could end up being a huge drive and a turning point in his season.
