Former Eagles linebacker L.J. Fort signs with Ravens

Former Eagles linebacker L.J. Fort on Monday morning signed with the Baltimore Ravens.

After suffering several injuries to cornerbacks to start this season, the Eagles released Fort on Friday in order to bring back veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick

Since the Eagles cut Fort after just four games, they will recoup a fourth-round compensatory pick. According to OverTheCap, the signing of Fort had been canceling out the comp pick for Jordan Hicks. Now, just the Andrew Sendejo signing is canceling out the fifth-round pick for Golden Tate.

Fort, 29, signed a three-year, $5.5 million deal with the Eagles this offseason, with $1.9 million guaranteed. By cutting him, the Eagles were left with over $1.3 million in dead money.

While Fort was brought to the Eagles with the opportunity to fight for a starting job, he didn’t play a single defensive snap in four games. But he did play 75 snaps on special teams (68 percent), more than just two other players on the roster (Sendejo and Nathan Gerry).

With injuries to their cornerbacks, the Eagles needed to find a roster spot for Scandrick and they had six healthy linebackers after the return of Kamu Grugier-Hill from his MCL sprain.

They now have these five: Nigel Bradham, Grugier-Hill, Zach Brown, Gerry, T.J. Edwards.
