Injuries have limited Eagles' game-day roster flexibility

Left tackle Jason Peters, inside linebackers Mychal Kendricks and Kiko Alonso, cornerback Byron Maxwell and defensive end Brandon Bair all did not practice Wednesday. Right tackle Lane Johnson was limited.

One player who did return to practice was left guard Allen Barbre, who missed Tuesday. He was a full participant.

Maxwell did some early stretching with the practicing players, but he was not in pads and quickly went over to join his injured teammates as a spectator. Maxwell is dealing with a quad injury, as is Peters.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Wednesday that if Peters, who played only six snaps against the Redskins before aggravating his injury, cannot go Sunday, Johnson could play left tackle (see story).

Johnson himself is dealing with multiple injuries, including a sprained MCL and an ankle issue that he says is even worse.

Kendricks aggravated his hamstring injury early in the loss at Washington last Sunday.

Bair hurt his groin and it sounds like he could be out a little while.

The Eagles must be confident that any of these banged-up starters is close to full strength Sunday because they can't afford to have multiple players leave the game again. Only 46 players dress on gameday, and if a guy plays one snap and exits, you're down a man.

"We've got to see through training this week and what goes on on the practice field," Kelly said Wednesday. "If you can only go for — we had a couple of guys who only went for a couple of plays on Sunday — you can't then re-sub and say, 'Hey, we need to activate somebody else.'"
