PHOENIX -- The New England Patriots have traded defensive end/outside linebacker Chandler Jones to the Arizona Cardinals for guard Jonathan Cooper and a second-round draft pick.
The Cardinals announced the deal on Tuesday, saying it was pending the two players passing physicals.
The acquisition of Jones would fill the Cardinals biggest need -- someone to rush the passer off the edge.
The 26-year-old Jones ranked fifth in the NFL last season with 12 1/2 sacks. Cooper was Arizona's first-round pick, the seventh selection overall, in the 2013 draft.
He missed his rookie season with a broken leg and never reached the level of play the Cardinals had envisioned for him.
Broncos: C.J. Anderson staying put
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos have matched the Miami Dolphins' front-loaded, four-year, $18 million offer to running back C.J. Anderson.
General manager John Elway tweeted, "Just got off the phone w/ CJ & let him know we're excited to match the offer sheet. We have high expectations for CJ and we're glad he's back!"
NFL
The move was somewhat surprising given that the Broncos had placed the lower tender on Anderson, a restricted free agent.
That $1.671 million tender included the right of first refusal but no compensation had the Broncos declined to match another team's offer sheet. The higher tender of $2.553 million for 2016 would have included a second-round draft pick as compensation.
Anderson ran for 720 yards and five touchdowns last season. He had 90 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in the Super Bowl.
NFL: Official links football to CTE
Critics of the NFL's proposed $1 billion plan to settle concussion claims say a league official's acknowledgement of a link between football and the brain disease CTE is a game changer.
A federal appeals court in Philadelphia is weighing a challenge to the settlement that would exclude future cases of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. The pending deal would instead pay for prior deaths involving CTE and for illnesses such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Critics want the plan expanded to include future CTE cases.
NFL senior vice president Jeff Miller told a congressional panel Monday that brain research on former NFL players "certainly" shows a link between football and CTE.
The NFL has long argued otherwise.
Lawyer Steven Molo urged the court Tuesday to expand the settlement based on Miller's comments.
Ravens: WR Wallace signs two-year deal
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Free agent receiver Mike Wallace has signed a two-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
Released by the Minnesota Vikings on March 8, the 29-year-old Wallace joins his third team in as many years.
The move was announced Tuesday at the Ravens training complex.
Wallace caught 39 passes for a career-low 473 yards and two touchdowns in 2015, but he should provide the Ravens with the outside speed they've been lacking.
He posted back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 and 2011, but he has failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark in any year since.
The Ravens hope the 2011 Pro Bowl selection will bring a downfield threat to the league's eighth-ranked passing game, which was without veteran Steve Smith and first-round rookie Breshad Perriman for much of last season.
Wallace has caught 414 passes for 6,307 yards and 49 touchdowns in seven years.
Giants: Pierre-Paul hopes to play next season without 'club'
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul says recent surgery on his mangled right hand went well and he hopes to play next season without a "club" on it.
Speaking for the first time since re-signing to a one-year contract, Pierre-Paul wasn't very specific Tuesday in discussing his hand hurt by fireworks. He did not say whether his hand dexterity has improved since the surgery, and he isn't sure what he will wear on the hand, saying he'll wait and see.
The 27-year-old, who missed the first eight games last season because of the firework accident, plans to attend the Giants' off-season training sessions.
While excited about the free agent signings of defensive linemen Olivier Vernon and Damon Harrison, cornerback Janoris Jenkins and linebacker Keenan Robinson, Pierre-Paul said his main focus is getting himself ready for the season.
Browns: LB Davis visits
CLEVELAND -- Free agent inside linebacker Demario Davis is visiting the Browns, who may have to replace Craig Robertson.
The 27-year-old Davis played the past four seasons for the New York Jets. The 6-foot-2, 240-pounder started every game the past three seasons for New York, which drafted him in the third round in 2012 out of Arkansas State.
Davis had 90 tackles and two sacks last season. He recorded more than 100 tackles in 2013 and 2014.
The Browns may need to bolster their depth at linebacker if Robertson, who has made free agent visits to several teams, signs elsewhere.
Cleveland's new front office has taken a casual and cautious approach so far in free agency. Last week, four starters, including three-time Pro Bowl center Alex Mack, signed with other teams.
Vikings: TE Ellison, CB Sherels re-sign
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed tight end Rhett Ellison and cornerback Marcus Sherels.
The deals were done Tuesday.
Ellison is coming off surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his right knee, an injury that kept him out of Minnesota's playoff game. The fourth-round draft pick in 2012, who has become a key run blocker and a reliable receiver on the limited opportunities he's had to catch the ball, is not quite halfway through the six-month recovery.
Ellison, who also lines up as a fullback at times, has 458 yards and three touchdowns receiving over four years.
Sherels will enter his seventh NFL season. He holds the third-best career average for punt return yardage in Vikings history.
