NFL's latest proposal reportedly includes just 1 preseason game

As the NFL and NFLPA continue to hammer out details of a 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL has reportedly made another concession.

In its latest proposal to players, the league has proposed just one preseason game, according to NFL Network. The league already chopped the preseason from four games to two. The players association wants to eliminate the preseason completely.

This latest proposal from the NFL comes just a day after many of the league’s stars posted to social media asking the NFL to come up with a better plan to create a safe work environment for them this season.

According to NFL Network, this proposal includes one preseason game that would occur the week of Aug. 27. As NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero notes, that would give players an extra week of preparation but would not give a full three weeks of acclimation players have wanted.

Without most or all of the preseason games, there will be an added emphasis on practice this year at training camp, not that it’s not already very important. But this year the pandemic has also prevented any joint practices between teams. So there will be unique challenges for players and coaches this summer as players try to make teams and get ready for the 2020 season and coaches try to evaluate talent and teach.

Eagles rookies are scheduled to report to the NovaCare Complex on Tuesday and the entire team is scheduled to report by July 28. It once seemed like the NFL had a ton of time to figure this out but now the start of training camp is here.

Doug Pederson said earlier this offseason that the Eagles will need a full five-to-six-week training camp to adequately prepare for the season. So it’s imperative that training camp start on time or close to it.

The Eagles begin their 2020 season in Washington on Sept. 13.
