16 players for Eagles to watch at the Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. — The Eagles could turn around their franchise with the 2022 draft and they’ll take the first step toward doing that at this year’s Senior Bowl.

The NFL world will converge in Mobile, Alabama, this week with a ton of top-notch talent set to hit the practice fields in front of throngs of NFL scouts and decision-makers. The Eagles, as always, will be well-represented.

While many eyes will be on the top quarterbacks of this class — Kenny Pickett, Carson Strong, Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis and Sam Howell  will all be in Mobile, — there are plenty of other players to watch too. Sure, the Eagles will observe these QBs but if they stick to their word and run it back with Jalen Hurts, that means they’ll have three first-round picks and eight throughout the other six rounds to build a team around him.

Here are 15 intriguing players (in alphabetical order) for the Eagles to watch this week:

Coby Bryant, CB, Cincinnati: Yes, he’s named for the late Kobe Bryant. This Coby is getting overlooked a little because of his teammate Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner but Bryant is a really good prospect too. And as teams tried to avoid Sauce, they had to deal with a strong corner on the other side too. Bryant was the Thorpe Award this season. His versatility will be intriguing to many teams.

JoJo Domann, LB, Nebraska: When folks talk about linebackers in this class, the same ones keep coming up. But Domann deserves to be talked about too and we might see his stock rise over the next couple months. At 6-1, 230, the former safety is definitely a modern-era linebacker but that’s a necessity. He has coverage skills but also has the ability to play in multiple spots, which should intrigue the Eagles’ coaching staff. And if the Eagles don’t want to draft a linebacker in the first round, Domann could be an intriguing answer on Day 2.

Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State: The Eagles might not want to use another first-round pick on a receiver but there’s still an obvious hole to fill. Dotson shined at Penn State and will likely end up going in the late first round, early second round range. Dotson (184 pounds) isn’t very big but he has a ton of speed and it’ll be fun to see what he runs at the combine. In 2021, Dotson had 91/1,182/12. Big-time numbers.

Kingsley Enagbare, Edge, South Carolina: There are going to be some fun OL-DL battles this week in Mobile and Enagbare is one of the edge players I want to see most. He could end up in the first round but his floor might be as a second-rounder. Enagbare (6-4, 265) had 4.5 sacks, 44 tackles and 7 TFLs for the Gamecocks in 2021. He’s as good against the run as he is rushing the passer.

Logan Hall, DL, Houston: Remember how Houston’s Payton Turner rose quickly last year and ended up being a first-round pick? Not saying Hall will end up in the first round but he might go earlier than people think. Hall (6-6, 275) has some position flexibility and is pretty good as a rusher and against the run. Looking like a Day 2 pick at worst.

Jermaine Johnson II, Edge, Florida State: Like Enagbare, Johnson has a chance to get into the first round. At 6-5, 265, Johnson is a good athlete and ready to make an impact immediately and could plug a hole left by the likely departure of Derek Barnett. The Georgia transfer made the most of his year with the Seminoles and could help his stock with a big week in Mobile.

Isaiah Likely, TE, Coastal Carolina: Likely is a lesser known player from a smaller football school with a chance to impress folks in Mobile. At 6-4, 240, Likely caught 59 passes for 912 yards as a senior. He has some big play ability too. Could be a good pickup in a middle round.

Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah: If the Eagles draft their first off-ball linebacker in the first round since 1979, Lloyd might just be the guy. Evaluators are split between Lloyd and Nakobe Dean when it comes to the top linebacker in the draft, but Lloyd has the athleticism that might help him be the first one off the board. Lloyd (6-3, 235) makes plays all over the field and has the potential to be an impact player from Day 1.

Boye Mafe, Edge, Minnesota: I’ll credit Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy for pointing out how much fun Mafe might be this week.

Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State: The Eagles have Dallas Goedert as their No. 1 tight end but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t add to that position. If the Eagles want to draft a tight end, this is a pretty good class. McBride (6-4, 260) has good versatility coming into the NFL. He is already an accomplished receiver with 90 catches for over 1,100 yards as a senior. But he’s also a willing blocker with plenty of size to get it done.

Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn: The Eagles haven’t drafted a cornerback in the first round since Lito Sheppard in 2002. If they break that streak 20 years later, McCreary has a chance to be that guy. Heck, he could be the non-QB from Mobile who gets his name called first in April.

Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida: There are several good running backs in Mobile this week, including Georgia’s James Cook who might get some reps in the slot and Alabama’s Brian Robinson. But I’m most intrigued by Pierce, who was criminally underused at Florida. Pierce is a tough, physical runner that could thrive in the right role.

Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati: There are plenty of good receiver options in Mobile but Pierce (6-3, 215) is big, athletic but needs enough work to likely fall into a middle round.

Channing Tindall, LB, Georgia: There are two Georgia linebackers in Mobile this week in Tindall and Quay Walker. Georgia’s defense was so stacked this year that Tindall might get lost a little bit. He shouldn’t. Tindall (6-2, 230) is an incredibly rangy athlete and natural tackler who could be a Day 2 or 3 pick. He wasn’t even a starter at Georgia but that’s because that defense was so good.

Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama: Two seasons of monster production for the 6-3, 190-pound prospect. After a 64/1,085/8 season as a junior, Tolbert followed it up with a 82/1,474/8 season in 2021. Sometimes smaller school players get to Mobile and show they belong; I think we might see that from Tolbert.

Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA: Even before this week, the buzz around Woolen was already starting. You might not know who he is but Woolen (6-3, 200) is a physical specimen who is expected to test extremely well. Similar size and athleticism to Ifeatu Melifonwu, who was great at last year’s Senior Bowl and ended up getting drafted in Round 2.
