Chiefs sign Eagles' 2020 draft pick to their practice squad

The Chiefs on Saturday signed Eagles’ 2020 sixth-round pick Prince Tega Wanogho to their practice squad.

Tega Wanogho, 23, spent his entire rookie season on the Eagles’ practice squad. He was elevated for the regular season final against Washington but got on the field for just two special teams snaps and did not see any action on offense.

After the season ended, the Eagles signed most of their practice squad to futures contracts but Tega was not on that list.

Now, he’ll join the Chiefs, who are already in the middle of their playoff run.

Tega Wanogho has an incredible backstory that seems perfect for a movie script. He left his native Nigeria as a teenager to live and play basketball in the United States, eventually switching to football and attending Auburn.

While Tega blocked at a high level in the SEC, he entered the NFL considered a longer-range project and also came into the league with a lingering knee injury.

Because of all those factors, even as the Eagles watched their offensive line get decimated by injuries in 2020, Tega never got a shot to play as a rookie.

The Eagles drafted 10 players last April and eight of them are still with the team. The other two, 7th-rounder Casey Toohill and 6th-rounder Tega Wanogho, are now with Washington and Kansas City, respectively.
