Eagles bring back developmental cornerback to practice squad

This time, the Eagles were actually able to get Mac McCain to their practice squad.

Last week, the Eagles promoted offensive tackle Le’Raven Clark to their active roster and signed him through the 2022 season. But they waived McCain to make room.

And then the Eagles probably waited to hear the Broncos claimed him; that’s what happened the last time.. This time, the Broncos didn’t.

The Eagles and Broncos have been playing tug-o-war with the 23-year-old cornerback all season after McCain went undrafted out of North Carolina A&T this spring.

Here’s a recap of McCain’s transactions this season:

May 14 - Signed by Broncos as UDFA

Aug. 31 - Waived at final cuts

Sept. 1 - Signed to Broncos’ practice squad

Sept. 7 - Signed to Eagles’ roster

Nov. 9 - Waived by Eagles

Nov. 10 - Claimed by Broncos

Nov. 23 - Waived by Broncos

Nov. 24 - Claimed by Eagles

Dec. 8 - Waived by Eagles

Dec. 13 - Signed to Eagles practice squad

After all that, McCain has played in just one game this season. Against the Cowboys in Week 3, McCain played 13 snaps on special teams.

Earlier this season, Eagles DBs coach Dennard Wilson explained the Eagles’ philosophy with all these young cornerbacks and his process for coaching them all.

The Eagles have a ton of young developmental cornerbacks in their building. They have four CBs on the roster who are 23 or younger: Zech McPhearson, Tay Gowan, Josiah Scott and Kary Vincent Jr. Including McCain on the practice squad, they have five.
