Each week during the 2022 regular season, we’re going to through the Eagles’ media guide to find an interesting nugget.
The Eagles’ PR interns do a great job filling out these little oddities in the media guid and they serve as a good way to meet the player behind the helmet.
This week, we chatted with starting quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts said if he could play another sport, “I’d go team up with Bryce Harper and the Phillies and play shortstop or center field.”

Me: Were you a baseball player growing up?
Hurts: Yeah, I was.
Me: What positions did you play?
Hurts: Everywhere.
NFL
Me: Were you good?
Hurts: I was real good.
Me: When did you stop?
Hurts: I stopped going into my 10th grade year because we didn’t make the playoff for football. I said, ‘I’m going to let everything else go and focus on what’s important to me.’
Me: How much did you enjoy baseball?
Hurts: I loved the game. I wish I would have never stopped looking back on it. I probably would have got drafted, even (out of) high school, if I’d have kept playing with the work I put in. But it’s all good. It worked out fine.
Me: Do you still watch baseball quite a bit?
Hurts: Not as much. Not as much. When I have time to. I really don’t have time for TV.
Me: Were you an Astros fan, I guess, growing up?
Hurts: I supported the Astros. I liked the Astros, I liked (Derek) Jeter. I liked Jeter a lot. I grew up watching Craig Biggio a lot. Those two guys.
Me: Who were you like as a player?
Hurts: Uhh, I don’t know. I was a little bit of the Kid (Ken Griffey Jr.), a little bit of Jeter and a little bit of Craig. I was able to do it all. Nothing but memories now.
Me: I know you’ve been busy, but have you been following the Phillies at all?
Hurts: I know they’ve done a really good job. They’ve got the playoffs going now. They dug themselves out of a hole and hopefully they can keep it rolling.
Me: Thank you, man. I appreciate it.
Hurts: I appreciate you.
