Ex-player defends Sirianni after tough press conference

Nick Sirianni's introductory press conference on Friday was far from a disaster, but it wasn't the smoothest of landings for the Eagles' new head coach. He stumbled over his words and over-explained some things.

And, because on the Internet nothing matters other than clicks and retweets, Sirianni's slip-ups soon had a legion of keyboard warriors serving up trolls and jokes at his expense.

Largely inoffensive? I guess. But also pretty unnecessary.

And Sirianni quickly had some notable NFL names at his defense, including an awesome message from his former Colts player Darius Leonard.

Leonard shared this message on Twitter on Friday evening in defense of Sirianni against those who were ripping the coach for his presser performance:

Wow. Forget looking for Sirianni to nail the media questions. When you have a guy like Leonard going out of his way to defend you, after you left the team for greener pastures? That's a fantastic sign for Sirianni as a coach, and a leader of professional football players. Getting that kind of buy-in isn't easy, and it's the most important part of Sirianni's job.

Leonard wasn't the only big-name NFLer to defend Sirianni on Friday, either. Former Eagles wideout Torrey Smith defended Sirianni against those who think the presser means anything in terms of his job performance:

That's a totally fair assessment.

He has room to improve with the media, but let Sirianni do his job before you judge him as a head coach.
