Former Eagles assistant Rich Scangarello is reportedly heading back to San Francisco.
Scangarello, 48, spent the 2020 season with the Eagles as a senior offensive assistant but a team source confirmed earlier this month that the Eagles weren’t bringing him back even if Doug Pederson kept his job.
And now, according to NFL Network, he’s returning to coach quarterbacks under Kyle Shanahan.

Scangarello was the 49ers’ quarterbacks coach from 2017-18 before taking the offensive coordinator job in Denver for the 2019 season. After he was fired by the Broncos, he was hired by the Eagles as a part of a unique offensive coaching staff structure that simply didn’t work.
In Philadelphia, Scanagarello was supposed to help bridge the gap between the Eagles’ run and pass games and also work closely with Carson Wentz. But the Eagles struggled to make their coaching structure work and Scangarello struggled to fit in on a coaching staff that was already entrenched.
Because of all those factors and more, his influence was never really seen too much in the Eagles’ offense in 2020. It seemed like a good idea to bring in Scangarello but it certainly didn’t work.

The Eagles are also not bringing back Marty Mornhinweg, who was a senior offensive consultant. Both decisions were made before Pederson was fired a week ago.
