Former Eagles DL coach interviewing for Packers' DC job

Matt Burke, who was once a favorite to replace Jim Schwartz as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, will reportedly interview for the Packers’ defensive coordinator position.

Burke, 44, is one of nine known candidates for the job in Green Bay, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

The Eagles hired in Burke in 2019 as a defensive special assistant and promoted him to DL coach and defensive run game coordinator for the 2020 season. Had Doug Pederson returned for 2021, it seemed very possible that he would have picked Burke to replace Schwartz, with whom Burke has had a long working relationship.

Burke was the defensive coordinator in Miami from 2017-19.

Instead, the Eagles fired Pederson and brought in head coach Nick Sirianni and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. They have reportedly hired Tracy Rocker to be their next DL coach and Nick Rallis as their linebackers coach, which made it pretty apparent that Burke wouldn’t return.

With all the main defensive position coaching positions in Philly reportedly filled, it looks like Burke will be moving on.
