Garrett is somehow a head coach target for intriguing team

When the Cowboys parted ways with Jason Garrett after a fruitless 10-year, it sure felt like the legendary clapper would be out of the head coaching circuit for a little while.

But after just one season as the Giants' offensive coordinator, Garrett is reportedly being sought out as a head coaching candidate for one of the league's more intriguing openings.

Yes, seriously.

The Los Angeles Chargers reportedly requested to interview Garrett, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:

Um... okay?

Garrett's Cowboys teams had some success between 2014 and 2018, but managed just two playoff wins over a 10-year span in Dallas, and Jerry Jones tired of Garrett's inability to get more out of rosters that, on paper, were regularly loaded with talent.

And Garrett's first season as the Giants' offensive coordinator was... uninspired. It didn't help that Saquon Barkley went down with a season-ending injury, but the offense ranked second-to-last in red zone percentage, fourth-to-last in third down conversion percentage, and second-to-last in both points and yards. Daniel Jones, across 14 starts, threw just 11 touchdowns to 10 interceptions in Garrett's offense.

That's not exactly the kind of performance I'm looking to pair with my franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert, but maybe the Chargers have... different ideas?

In any case, this would be hilarious for Eagles fans, who get to face the Chargers next season - in Philadelphia.

I'm sure Philly, hopefully allowed back at games by September, would welcome Garrett back with open arms and open jeers.
