Jason Peters will turn 39 on Friday but the legendary left tackle told 6ABC that he wants to play one more season in the NFL.
Even if he knows it likely won’t be for the Eagles.
“I’m gonna play one more year, try to get me another ring,” Peters said to 6ABC. “Probably won’t be in Philly. Unfortunate. But try to choose a team and try to get another ring.”

The Eagles initially weren’t planning on bringing Peters back for the 2020 season but when Brandon Brooks tore his Achilles in June, the Eagles signed Peters to fill in at right guard and paid him a guard’s salary. But when Andre Dillard went down for the season, the Eagles eventually gave Peters a pay bump and moved him back to left tackle.
Peters ended up playing just eight games in 2020 and because of new rules for the season actually ended up in Injured Reserve twice. He had a toe injury that kept him out for a few games in the middle of the season and then ended his 2020 early.
In his place, Jordan Mailata filled in at left tackle and played very well. And in 2021, it’ll either be Mailata or 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard in that left tackle spot. It won’t be Peters.
The Eagles have acknowledged they’re now in a retooling phase and there’s no way they can justify bringing back a 39-year-old left tackle who has struggled to stay on the field. Peters is one of the greatest players in franchise history but it’s obviously time to move on and Peters knows it too.
But he’s still talking like he’s a member of the team.
“The fans deserve more than what we gave them this year,” Peters said. “And hopefully we’ll be able to bounce back with this new coach and the new staff we’re going to be having.”
Peters has put together quite a Hall of Fame resume since entering the NFL in 2004 as an undrafted tight end from Arkansas. He became a two-time Pro Bowler in Buffalo before the Eagles pulled off one of the greatest trades in franchise history to get him to Philly. With the Eagles, he was named to seven Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams.
