Seahawks' Metcalf has spicy take on Wentz vs. Hurts debate

The Eagles face the Seahawks on Monday Night Football in Week 12, but while Seattle fans are busy analyzing playoff scenarios, Philadelphia is embroiled in an all-out quarterback controversy.

Should Carson Wentz be taking a seat on Monday night in lieu of rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts? Wentz certainly hasn't shown much of anything this season.

And now we know how at least one Seahawk feels about the Eagles' QB situation.

Second-year Seattle wideout D.K. Metcalf, who is tearing up the NFL after the Eagles passed on him in the 2019 NFL Draft, commented on an Instagram post from ESPN's Jordan Schultz asking whether Hurts should "be QB1 in Philly".

A like can be interpreted in a number of ways, but Metcalf's comment leaves no wiggle room:

Dang, D.K.! I give him props for standing behind his opinions, but this seems like a wild move six days before he faces Wentz and the Eagles in primetime. Giving your opponent bulletin board material, however woeful your opponent seems to be, is never smart.

Metcalf played against Hurts at Alabama twice during his college career with Ole Miss. In 2017, as the starter, Hurts went 12 of 19 for 197 yards and two touchdowns. In 2018, as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa, Hurts went 7 of 10 for 85 yards, two touchdowns, and one INT. Solid, if not spectacular, stat lines.

But if Metcalf only has that vision of Hurts, and he's been watching Wentz at all this season, it's sort of hard to blame him for thinking the rookie at least deserves a crack at the job.

We'll see if Wentz can turn this unexpected provocation into some juice on Monday night. He could sure use the jolt.
