WATCH: Darius Slay gifts James Harden ball after big interception

It was a raucous atmosphere at the Linc Monday night for the Eagles home opener, and it turned into a party by the fourth quarter. And one of the city’s biggest names got himself a door prize while he was taking in all the action.

The game was still very much in the balance early in the third quarter when Eagles cornerback Darius Slay grabbed a pass intended for Justin Jefferson at the goal line to end a scoring threat.

After a 19-yard return, Slay took off running with the ball, through the Eagles sideline, and right to the front row, giving the ball to Sixers superstar James Harden.

It was the first of two interceptions on the night for Slay, who did a masterful job of keeping Jefferson under wraps all night long. After the game, Harden was waiting for Slay in the tunnel to offer congratulations for his efforts. Slay signed the ball and the two posed for a few pictures.

Slay explained why he gave Harden the ball after the game.

“I didn’t even know he was there at the game until they put him on the Jumbotron. He’s one of my favorite players. Shoot, I’m like, ‘Why not? I get a chance to meet James Harden, a Hall of Fame basketball player. If I make a play tonight, definitely a pick, I gotta give him the ball.’"

Game recognizing game. You love to see it. To see these stars from other Philly teams (Bryce Harper and Bryson Stott of the Phillies were also in attendance last night) showing their support for each other, it’s heart-warming.

Safe to say we will likely see Slay return the favor by sitting courtside some Sixers home games in a few weeks. The game ball might be a little tougher to come by, though.
