PST: Can Maxwell thrive with Eagles' personnel?

The Eagles are betting big on cornerback Byron Maxwell. Like six years, $63 million big.

The 27-year-old Maxwell will reportedly make the leap from Seattle to Philadelphia when the league year officially opens on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (see story).

But can Maxwell thrive in Bill Davis’ defense with the current batch of personnel? After all, he was surrounded by a strong secondary with the Seahawks. The Eagles don’t have names like Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor on their roster.

However, the Eagles did try to solidify their own safety play, making a push for Devin McCourty. He ultimately decided to return to the Patriots (see story).

“If they were really thinking of it as a one-two package, because they offered a lot of money for this guy McCourty, he just decided to go back to New England,” CSNPhilly.com Eagles insider Geoff Mosher said on Philly Sports Talk, “and now you kind of wonder if that plan backfires, how does that impact Byron Maxwell?”
