Reports: Nate Allen to sue Fort Myers Police Department

Following a February detainment by police, former Eagles safety Nate Allen plans to sue the Fort Myers Police Department, according to reports.

In a statement to TMZ Sports, his lawyer, Sawyer Smith, said:

"He's a fighter, and he's going to stand up for this community and its residents to have a fair shake when they interact with law enforcement."

Allen was apprehended by police Feb. 16 in Fort Myers, Florida, after being accused by a 16-year-old girl of indecent exposure. He was later released because of inconclusive evidence.

When he was brought in, Allen was leaving a Red Lobster. The incident allegedly occurred near the restaurant. The accuser changed her story several times, which led to Allen's release.

On Feb. 26, Smith told NBC 2, an NBC affiliate in Fort Myers, the false arrest warranted an investigation by either the Florida Department of Law Enforcement or the FBI.

In a text message with CSNPhilly.com's Geoff Mosher, Allen said "someone definitely lied," and also told Comcast SportsNet's Derrick Gunn he vowed to clear his name.

Allen signed with the Oakland Raiders on March 12 after spending his first five years in the NFL with the Eagles.

The 27-year-old ended his Birds career with 324 tackles, four sacks and 10 interceptions.
