Sidney Jones exits Eagles-Giants game with hamstring injury

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Sidney Jones hurt his hamstring early in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Giants and will not return.

Jones came into the game with an ankle injury, but seemed to hurt his hamstring on a punt play. He sat on the turf for a few extra seconds before getting checked out on the sideline. They ruled him out pretty quickly.

This is interesting because the Eagles’ backup nickel corner had been Avonte Maddox, who was a starting safety coming in.

The Eagles now have Rasul Douglas playing safety and have moved Maddox into the nickel corner spot. Interesting decision.

The other option was probably to move Jalen Mills inside on passing downs and get Douglas outside. Instead, they have Douglas at safety, a move the Eagles have been reluctant to make.

The nickel corner is an important spot against the Giants because that’s where Sterling Shepard plays most often. He had two 100-yard games against the Eagles last season.
