For a minute there back before the Philadelphia Eagles eventually went with Doug Pederson as their next head coach, it looked like Tom Coughlin was awfully close to being Chip Kelly's successor.
There were plenty of questions. Bringing in perhaps your biggest rival's coach? At such an advanced age? All of these things had most Eagles fans scratching their heads and wondering, "why?"
But, if you believe a report yesterday in the New York Daily News, that was never going to happen because his interview in Philly did not go so well.
The interview was a disaster.
Coughlin acted like a 20-year old whose girlfriend had dumped him and he was trying to make her jealous by dating her No. 1 enemy on the rebound. NFL sources say his hard feelings for the Giants came through loud and clear in the interview with the Eagles brain trust, which included owner Jeffrey Lurie, and he was obsessed with how he felt wronged by the Giants. He was not forthcoming about his plans for his staff. He came off more concerned with making the Giants look bad than being consumed with coaching the Eagles.
The NYDN report doesn't stop there though. Apparently Coughlin is still hanging around the Giants facilities, using the gym, and just kind of won't go away, casting a shadow that a longtime coach would.
This line is just wonderful: "He walked away with a $7 million golden parachute. Get a health club membership or buy some home workout equipment and hire a personal trainer."

Or just do some burpees until you can't breath.
All of that said, it probably would have been quite fun -- in a trainwreck sort of way -- having a coach that absolutely couldn't stand the New York Giants.
