What's going on with DeSean Jackson?

DeSean Jackson’s return didn’t quite go as planned.

The 32-year-old left the Eagles’ 22-14 win in the first quarter with his same abdominal injury that has been lingering since Week 2 and never returned.

After the game, head coach Doug Pederson was asked if Jackson tweaked the injury or if his failure to return was precautionary.

“Precautionary right now,” Pederson said. “We'll get some more testing on it. Find out tomorrow.”

Pederson said the plan was for Jackson to play the whole game, which seems to indicate that he was not on a pitch count in his return. But whatever the plan was, it went out the window early on Sunday against the Bears.

Jackson went into the locker room late in the first quarter. When he returned to the sideline in the second quarter, he was not wearing a helmet and didn’t get back in the game despite being listed as questionable to return.

Jackson missed the previous six games with an abdominal injury he suffered early in Week 2 against the Falcons.

On Sunday, he played just a handful of snaps and had one catch for five yards. He also drew an early defensive pass interference call.

Jackson came into the game listed as questionable after being a limited participant in practice all week.

The Eagles are now on their bye week, which will give Jackson some extra time to heal before the Eagles host the Patriots in two weeks. Without Jackson, the Eagles have missed his deep threat ability and the way he opens up the field for other pass-catchers.

Maybe the Eagles shouldn’t have relied so heavily on a 32-year-old speed receiver, but there’s not much they can do now aside from wait and hope he can return.
