2019 NHL draft lottery results: Flyers earn 11th overall pick, while Devils land No. 1 again

Sorry, Flyers fans. Jack Hughes isn't coming to Philadelphia.

The chances were obviously not in the Flyers' favor for Tuesday night's 2019 NHL draft lottery in Toronto. The Flyers had a 3.5 percent shot to land the No. 1 overall pick, which will most likely be used on 17-year-old American center Hughes (more on him here), a 3.8 percent chance at No. 2 and a 4.1 percent chance at No. 3.

They entered the lottery holding the 10th draft position and ended up with the 11th pick. The Devils won the lottery again, with the Rangers earning the second pick, meaning Hughes will almost certainly land in the Metropolitan Division. New Jersey had the No. 1 overall pick in 2017 and selected Nico Hischier before the Flyers nabbed Nolan Patrick at No. 2.

Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher, who was in Toronto for the event, is impressed by this year's draft crop.

"The top end of the draft I believe is strong," Fletcher said Monday. "The potential top three picks have gained a lot of notoriety, and from what I've seen, justifiably so. To me, it looks like there are really good players through the first half of the first round. In particular, I think the depth looks pretty good, as well — even into the second round, you're getting players better than you would most years. I believe if our scouts were here, they would tell you it is an above average draft year."

The Flyers have 10 picks in the draft, which will be held June 21-22 in Vancouver, British Columbia. This marks the first draft Fletcher and assistant general manager Brent Flahr will head up for the Flyers. Flahr was brought on board by Fletcher and oversees the Flyers' scouting department and prospect development.

Unfortunately for the Flyers, there was no replay of 2017, when the club hit the jackpot by climbing from the 13th draft position to No. 2 overall. They had a 2.4 percent at the second pick that summer and somehow got it, selecting Patrick out of the WHL.
