
DETROIT -- Jonathan Bernier made 38 saves in his 12th career shutout, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night.
It marked the Maple Leafs' second shutout of the Red Wings in the last 30 years. The last time was Curtis Joseph's 3-0 victory on Dec. 6, 2000, in Detroit.
Michael Grabner scored at 19:30 of the second.
Petr Mrazek made 26 saves for the Red Wings, who had won two in a row (see full recap).
Pens down Rangers, extend lead over Flyers
NEW YORK -- Matt Cullen's tie-breaking goal with 8:51 left in regulation powered the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-3 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Conor Sheary scored twice, and Patric Hornqvist and Sidney Crosby each added another for Pittsburgh, which improved to 36-24-8. The Penguins have won two straight, and three of their last five.
Pittsburgh now has 80 points, and passed Detroit for the first Eastern Conference wild-card spot. The Red Wings hosted Toronto later Sunday night.

Despite getting goals from Chris Kreider, Derick Brassard and Ryan McDonagh, New York fell to 39-23-7. Even with the regulation loss, the Rangers maintained their three-point lead over the idle New York Islanders for second place in the Metropolitan Division (see full recap).
Lightning cruise past Blue Jackets
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ben Bishop made 37 saves, Steven Stamkos had two goals and an assist and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-0 on Sunday to stop a three-game losing streak.
It was Bishop's fourth shutout of the season and No. 16 for his career. Ondrej Palat had a goal and an assist and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored as the Lightning broke out on offense after scoring three times in their last three games.
Tampa Bay (40-24-5) moved into a tie with idle Florida (38-21-9) for second in the Atlantic Division with 85 points, but Nikita Kucherov and Valtteri Filppula left with injuries.
Bishop hung in there as Columbus crashed the net for much of the day. He helped Tampa Bay carry a 1-0 lead into the final period, and the Lightning put it away with three goals in the third, two of them short-handed (see full recap).
