Best of NHL: Lightning beat Hurricanes for 9th straight win

TAMPA, Fla. -- Alex Killorn scored with 42.5 seconds left on the clock in overtime as the Tampa Bay Lightning won a team-record ninth straight game by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 on Saturday night.

Killorn skated around a Carolina defenseman and through the slot before beating Hurricanes goalie Eddie Lack.

Ondrej Palat had two goals for the Lightning, who broke the old mark of eight wins in a row from 2004 when Tampa Bay won its lone Stanley Cup. Tyler Johnson had the other Tampa Bay goal, tying the score at 3-3 with 6:18 remaining in regulation.

Flames top Penguins to snap 7-game skid
PITTSBURGH -- Mikael Backlund scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Lance Bouma added another in the third and the Calgary Flames ended a seven-game losing streak with a 4-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Backlund scored his 13th and Bouma his second of the season. Joe Colborne scored his 11th of the season and Mark Giordano his 16th for the Flames, who won in Pittsburgh for the first time in more than a decade.

Joni Ortio stopped 29 shots for his first win in nine games this season.

Sidney Crosby scored both goals for Pittsburgh and has 28 on the season. He has seven points in his past four games. Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves for Pittsburgh.

Calgary last won in Pittsburgh Dec. 3, 2005, when Crosby was a fresh-faced rookie, skating alongside team owner Mario Lemieux.

Calgary ended a four-game East Coast road trip by snapping a seven-game losing streak, avoiding a second straight season with an eight-game skid (see full recap).

Niskanen, Capitals beat Bruins in OT
BOSTON -- Matt Niskanen scored in overtime and backup Philipp Grubauer stopped 33 shots to lead the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night.

Niskanen's goal on a slapper from the blue line beat Tuukka Rask 2:36 into overtime. Karl Alzner also scored for Washington, which lost 3-2 to the New York Rangers on Friday night. The first-place Capitals have lost back-to-back games just twice this season.

Rask made 28 saves for the Bruins, who had won two straight and four of five. Patrice Bergeron scored Boston's only goal (see full recap).

Ducks beat Kings to take Pacific lead
LOS ANGELES -- David Perron scored the go-ahead power-play goal in the second period and the surging Anaheim Ducks earned their 11th consecutive victory, beating the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 on Saturday and taking over sole possession of the Pacific Division lead from their Southern California rivals.

The Ducks trailed the Kings by as many as 16 points on the morning of Jan. 20.

But since then, Anaheim has gone 18-1-1 and Los Angeles 9-9-1. The teams each have 18 games left, including one more matchup on April 7 at Los Angeles.

The Ducks, trying to win a fourth straight division title, lead the season series 3-1 and have won 11 of the past 14 regular-season meetings overall -- including a 4-2 victory last Sunday at Honda Center.

Ryan Kesler and Jacob Silfverberg also scored for Anaheim and Frederik Andersen made 32 saves in his first start against the Kings this season, helping Bruce Boudreau earn his 400th regular-season coaching victory (see full recap).
