Best of NHL: Penguins rip Devils, take over top wild-card spot

NEWARK, N.J. -- The Pittsburgh Penguins weren't happy with the way they played in a loss to Calgary, and they took it out on the New Jersey Devils a day later.

Evgeni Malkin scored two goals and the Penguins took advantage of a couple of defensive lapses by New Jersey and the absence of All-Star goaltender Cory Schneider in posting a 6-1 victory on Sunday night.

"It was a really good game for us," said Nick Bonino, who added goals along with Matt Cullen, Bryan Rust and Scott Wilson. "The last time we were in this building we kind of did what we did yesterday and had a bad game and a bad effort. With the Devils, if you get a couple of goals early, it opens them up a little bit, and when they need to press for goals, we were able to take advantage of it," (see full recap).

Kane leads Blackhawks past Red Wings again
CHICAGO -- The special teams were quite special once again. Patrick Kane got the Chicago Blackhawks off to a fast start, and Corey Crawford stepped up when they struggled in the second period.

Not a bad little tuneup for a crucial two-game trip.

Kane scored his 38th goal on the first shot of the game and Crawford made 33 saves, helping the Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 on Sunday (see full recap).

Clutterbuck's goal gets Islanders by Rangers
NEW YORK -- Cal Clutterbuck's late goal helped the New York Islanders cap a stellar road trip and edge closer to the Rangers in the playoff race.

Clutterbuck scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:28 remaining in the third period, and the Islanders fended off the New York Rangers 6-4 on Sunday night.

Johnny Boychuk had two goals. Kyle Okposo had a goal and assist and Brock Nelson also scored for the Islanders and defenseman Nick Leddy had two assists. Frans Nielsen added an empty-netter with 1:01 remaining (see full recap).

Stars slip past Sens on Roussel's goal
OTTAWA, Ontario -- A close victory left Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff far from impressed.

Antoine Roussel scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period, leading the Stars past the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Sunday night. Jason Spezza also scored for the Stars, and Kari Lehtonen made 23 saves.

But it was the details that had Ruff concerned after the game (see full recap).
