The Flyers have taken down some of the NHL's best over their last nine games, a stretch in which they've gone 6-2-1.
Now they must beat the NHL's worst.
The Flyers (28-17-7) visit the league's last-place team the Red Wings (12-37-4) Monday night.
Let's get into the essentials:
• When: 7:30 p.m. ET with Flyers Pregame Live at 7 p.m. ET
• Where: Little Caesars Arena
• Broadcast: NBC Sports Philadelphia+
• Live stream: NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com and the NBC Sports MyTeams app
• Everyone knows the Flyers have had a propensity in recent years to play to the level of their competition.
The Flyers beat the NHL's top four teams in a span of 14 days before the extended break. They also own four regulation losses against the NHL's bottom seven clubs.
NHL
The overall numbers say a lot:
Against the league's top 15 teams, the Flyers are 13-7-6 with 32 points (.615 points percentage).
Against the league's bottom 16 teams, the Flyers are 15-10-1 with 31 points (.596 points percentage).
The Flyers play the Red Wings tonight and the Eastern Conference's second-to-last-place team the Devils on Thursday.
They can't afford a letdown in energy or focus. They need to take advantage of these games.
• Detroit is the NHL's worst team by 15 points. The Red Wings are 5-25-3 with a minus-64 goal differential since Nov. 14. And they've currently lost eight straight games by a combined score of 34-12.
• The Flyers are two points out of third place in the Metropolitan Division but don't hold a wild-card spot, either, because of the regulation/overtime wins tiebreaker (see standings).
According to Hockey-Reference.com, the Flyers have a 56.9 percent chance to make the playoffs.
