Flyers begin 2016-17 regular season in Los Angeles vs. Kings

While other NHL clubs will begin the season facing division rivals, the Flyers are once again headed west as they begin their historic 50th-anniversary season in October.

The Flyers will open the 2016-17 season on the West Coast and remain out west for at least three days, depending upon whether they head to California during their final week of training camp. The full schedule was released Tuesday.
They’ll start the season with back-to-back games in Los Angeles on Oct. 14 and Arizona on Oct. 15 before heading to Chicago to face the Blackhawks on Oct. 18 to end an extended three-game trip.
Then the Flyers face yet another West Coast team when they open their home schedule against Anaheim on Oct. 20 at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers will play all of their Metropolitan Division rivals at least four times. They will face two Eastern Conference rivals five times — New Jersey and Carolina. In all, they will play 30 Metro Division games.
They will also play 24 games against the Atlantic Division, which includes two road games at Boston, Buffalo, Montreal and Toronto.
They will play two homes games against Detroit, Florida, Ottawa and Tampa Bay. This is reverse of last season’s schedule to alternate home/away against other conference opponents.
As usual, the Flyers play a home-and-home series against every team in the Western Conference for a total of 28 games.
March will be their busiest month with 15 games, nine of which are on the road. November has nine home games among 14 games overall.
Their annual post-Christmas trip out west includes stops at St. Louis, San Jose and Anaheim.
The Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins visit the Wells Fargo Center on Oct. 29 while the Rangers are this year’s Black Friday (Nov. 25) opponent.
The winter’s highlight will see the Flyers and Penguins meet at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on Feb. 25 in an outdoor game as part of the NHL Coors Light Stadium Series.
The Flyers will be on the road for 13 of 19 games that month from Feb. 15 through March 26.
The regular season will conclude with back-to-back home games on Saturday, April 8 against Columbus and Sunday, April 9 against Carolina.
Five of the Flyers' final seven games are on home ice.

The Flyers have 18 sets of back-to-back games and will play three times in four nights on seven occasions.
