VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Former Flyers coach, Canucks coach and club executive, Pat Quinn, who died last fall from cancer, will be honored posthumously before tonight’s game at Rogers Arena.
Fittingly, the Flyers are the opponent and it is also St. Paddy’s Day, as well.
“We are excited to honor and celebrate Pat Quinn on St. Patrick’s Day," Canucks president of hockey operations Trevor Linden said in a statement.
“Pat was an inspiration to all of us. He had such a profound impact on the hockey landscape in this city and on the commitment this organization has made and continues to make in the community.”
The Canucks will also rename Abbott Street, outside the arena, “Pat Quinn Way” while players will wear a helmet decal bearing the initials “PQ” inside a four-leaf clover.
The coaching staff had patches on their warmups.
“He’s done a lot for the game as a player and a coach,” said Flyers coach Craig Berube. “I knew Pat, not very well, but I knew him enough.

“I’ve been around Paul Holmgren and Bob Clarke who knew him very well and were fond of him. I know what kind of man he was and what kind of hockey man he was. It’s a loss to hockey and his family. Pat was a great hockey man.”
