Rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere will not play Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center against the Islanders with what appears to be a right knee injury.
That’s the word from the Flyers as they went onto the ice very late Friday afternoon, returning from Minnesota after Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win without him in practice.
A source told CSNPhilly.com that Ghost appeared “fine” on the plane ride home from Minnesota.
Gostisbehere took a knee-on-knee hit from Mikko Koivu late in the first period. Fortunately, the hit was to his good knee — right — not the left knee in which he tore his ACL last season as a Phantom.
Gostisbehere returned to Thursday's game for two shifts in the second period before leaving. He played 7:31. Given he came back, the assumption is a bruised knee or mild sprain.
Among rookie defensemen, Gostisbehere leads all with seven goals and is tied with St. Louis' Colton Parayko for the scoring lead with 16 points.
