Instant Replay: Canucks 4, Flyers 1

BOX SCORE

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — On a St. Paddy’s night when all of Vancouver and the Flyers honored the long fabled memory of “The Big Irishman,” Pat Quinn, his proud Canucks rallied for a 4-1 victory.

This was the first of three games in Western Canada this week for the Flyers. The Flyers are now 0-1-1 on the four-game road trip.

And it was yet another tight-checking, no-margin-for-error game — is there ever any other kind for goalie Steve Mason?

Alexandre Burrows, back on the Canucks’ top line with the Sedin Twins because Zack Kassian had the flu, scored twice within 17 seconds in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and hand the Canucks a victory.

Debut
Nick Cousins made his NHL debut for the Flyers, playing just over 10 minutes at center.

Slow start
Six minutes into the game, there were just three combined shots.

Notable goals
Michael Raffl celebrated being reunited with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek with his 17th goal on a scrum in front of Canucks goalie Eddie Lack in the second period. It was the first time in six games Raffl was back on the top line.

Goalie report
Mason, after a couple days off, had 31 saves. Lack had 27 saves.

Power play
The Flyers got a second-period power play, turned it over a few times and saw Vancouver also clear the puck twice. Sean Couturier had the lone shot from the side, but Lack had an easy save.

The Flyers were 0 for 2. The Canucks were 0 for 1.

Penalty kill
Neither team was overworked in this department.

Fights
Surprising fight between Voracek and Dan Hamhuis. Score it a draw.

Tragic number
The Flyers' tragic number that will see Boston eliminate them fell to 11 after the Bruins picked up a point in a shootout loss to Buffalo. Eleven points earned by Boston or 11 points lost by the Flyers would eliminate Craig Berube’s club from the wild card.

Scratches
Defensemen Michael Del Zotto (right foot) and Brandon Manning (healthy); forwards R.J. Umberger (hip/abdominal) and Matt Read (excused absence).

Up next
The Flyers are headed to Calgary after the game for their meeting against the Flames on Thursday night.
