Flyers forward Michael Raffl collapsed while seated at the bench during Saturday’s game at the Wells Fargo Center against the New York Rangers.
Early in the second period, Raffl collided with Rangers forward Jarret Stoll and took an accidental elbow to the face at the end of his shift.
He skated to the bench and took a seat as the Rangers began a power play. Six seconds into the power play, the Flyers were tapping sticks loudly on the bench as Raffl had collapsed.
Play was halted at 2:58 and Raffl was helped up the tunnel.
Raffl, who has one assist this season, was replaced on Claude Giroux’s top line by Brayden Schenn.
When play resumed, the Rangers scored on their power play to tie the game at 2-2.
The Flyers announced Raffl would not return after the second period ended. It's fair to suggest a concussion protocol was mandated given the nature of his injury.
