
OTTAWA, Ontartio -- Bobby Ryan's third-period goal snapped a tie and lifted the Ottawa Senators to a 6-4 victory over the Boston Bruins in a back-and-forth game on Thursday night.
The surging Senators moved within two points of the Bruins in the race for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has a game in hand.
Kyle Turris netted two goals, and Milan Michalek, David Legwand and Jean-Gabriel Pageau also scored for the Senators. Andrew Hammond, making his fifth straight start, faced 35 shots and improved to 12-0-1 in his first 13 NHL starts.
Ottawa native Ryan Spooner led the Bruins with two goals. Carl Soderberg and Torey Krug also scored, and Tuukka Rask faced 32 shots as Boston dropped its third straight (see full recap).
Jagr, Panthers beat Red Wings
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Jaromir Jagr scored his 718th NHL goal, moving into fifth place on the career list, and added an assist in the Florida Panthers' 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.
Scottie Upshall and Brandon Pirri also scored, and Roberto Luongo made 25 saves in his return after missing six games due to an upper-body injury. It was Florida's first win in three games.
Erik Cole had the lone goal for Detroit, and Petr Mrazek stopped 29 shots, but the Red Wings lost for the fifth time in seven games.

Jagr, who gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead, passed Phil Esposito for sole possession of fifth place with his first goal since March 1. He has two with Florida since being acquired from New Jersey on Feb. 28 (see full recap).
Stars hold off Penguins
DALLAS -- Brett Ritchie and Jamie Benn scored 1:23 apart in the second period, and the Dallas Stars held on to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 on Thursday night.
Benn set up Ritchie's deflection goal at 2:15 of the second, and put his own rebound past Marc-Andre Fleury at 3:37 for a 2-0 lead.
Kris Letang scored the Penguins' second power-play goal in nine games at 13:26 of the second. They have scored only twice in losing their last four games.
Dallas' Kari Lehtonen made 15 of his 31 saves in the third period to preserve his 30th win of the season. Fleury had 24 saves.
The Stars won for the sixth time in their last eight games to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. With 11 games remaining, they are eight points away from the Western Conference's final wild-card spot (see full recap).
