Flyers honor Giroux with emotional, memory-filled pregame ceremony

The Flyers and their fans went all out Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center for Claude Giroux's 1,000th career game.

Giroux became just the second player to ever suit up for 1,000 games in a Flyers jersey, joining franchise icon Bob Clarke.

Before puck drop against the Predators, the Flyers held a ceremony to salute Giroux's achievement.

A video tribute was played, composed of memories throughout Giroux's 15-year career in Philadelphia and congratulatory messages from those close to the captain. To the delight of the crowd, Simon Gagne, Wayne Simmonds, Jakub Voracek, Paul Holmgren and Danny Briere all shared a message in the tribute.

On the ice, Giroux was joined by his wife Ryanne and their two boys Gavin and Palmer, among other family members.

Clarke presented him with a commemorative silver stick. Sean Couturier and Scott Laughton presented Giroux's sons with miniature silver sticks.

The team took a picture together on the ice after all the gifts were given out.

During warmups, every Flyer rocked a special black No. 28 Giroux jersey.

Giroux's milestone came four days before the trade deadline. Amid a second consecutive down year for the franchise, the 34-year-old Giroux very well could be traded in the coming days.

If this was goodbye between Giroux and the Flyers, it was done extremely well.
