Scott Laughton named Flyers’ 2022-23 King Clancy Memorial Trophy nominee

It's not uncommon to find Scott Laughton coordinating with Flyers public relations and communication staffers in the locker room after a practice or morning skate.

Oftentimes, he is involved in an initiative for the organization and wanting to make sure he's squared away on his responsibility.

Laughton has played parts of 10 years in Philadelphia. He made his NHL debut with the Flyers at 18 years old.

The city has become his home.

"I obviously want to win here, it's a special place to me," Laughton said in December. "I want to be a part of something that you can be proud of and our city can be proud of."

While Laughton set career highs in all major statistical categories this season, he was the same guy off the ice. For a third straight year, he has been named the Flyers' King Clancy Memorial Trophy nominee, an award that is given annually to the NHL player "who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."

Each NHL club selects its nominee and the winner of the award is picked by a committee of senior NHL executives, led by commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly. The award winner will receive a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of his choice, while the second- and third-place finishers will each receive a $5,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice.

The three finalists for the honor will be revealed later this month and the winner will be announced at the NHL awards ceremony June 26 in Nashville, Tennessee.

"It's a huge honor for myself to be very involved in the community where I was drafted, grown up, and now live," Laughton said in a statement released by the team Tuesday. "A lot of credit goes to my wife, Chloe, who's such a big part of this. The nomination is something that means a lot to me and I'm very grateful because Philadelphia has given me so much and I want to always give back. Giving back, being a part of this community and to be a voice for various groups and organizations, I take great pride in it, and I believe is part of our responsibility."

Laughton, who turns 29 in three weeks, has been a devoted ambassador of the Flyers' Pride initiative, alongside James van Riemsdyk. Among his other commitments to the community, Laughton is a Ronald McDonald House Charities companion. At his wedding, he and his wife asked guests to offer donations to RMHC Philadelphia for its Adopt-A-Room sponsorship instead of gifts.

"I was really happy with how Scott played this season and how he emerged as a leader in the locker room, both on and off the ice, especially leading the way for our younger group of guys. His dedication to the city of Philadelphia and surrounding communities is unmatched and an honor to watch him connect with so many of our great fans."
