With Flyers getting a big reinforcement, Capitals are shorthanded


After back-to-back losses to the Bruins, the Flyers (7-3-2) meet another one of their top contenders in the East Division on Sunday when they open a two-game road set with the Capitals (6-2-3).

• Sunday marks the Flyers' first meeting this season with the Capitals, who are led by former Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette.

Including the round-robin contest, the Flyers went 4-0-1 against Washington last season, outscoring it 19-9.

Carter Hart is 1-1-1 with a 2.29 goals-against average and .926 save percentage in his career against the Capitals.

• The Flyers suffered an overtime and a regulation loss to Boston. They haven't lost three or more games in a row since Dec. 31-Jan. 7 of last season, when they dropped four straight.

Washington is coming off consecutive regulation losses. The Capitals haven't lost three straight in regulation since January 2019.

The Capitals on Sunday will be without Evgeny Kuznetsov (COVID protocol), Jakub Vrana (COVID protocol), T.J. Oshie (upper body) and lya Samsonov (COVID protocol).
