This probably won’t surprise anyone familiar with the many talents of Shayne Gostisbehere.
The Flyers’ rookie leads all first-year defensemen with seven goals.
Ghost had a goal and an assist during Tuesday’s 4-3 victory over Les Canadiens at Wells Fargo Center (see game recap).
Those two points tied St. Louis' Colton Parayko for the scoring lead among rookie D-men.
“It was good,” Gostisbehere said of his effort. “I was just keeping it simple and just doing what my specialties are, just shooting the puck and as a collective group we did really well.”
Gostisbehere got to play against forward Daniel Carr, who was a teammate with him at Union College when they won the Frozen Four in Philadelphia in 2014. Both players went to dinner on Monday night.
Game day, things change, even for friends.
“It was all business out there,” Gostisbehere said. “Friends is off the ice. It was good to see him out there though.”
Now recall Gostisbehere had a tough road trip. He was in the penalty box for three power-play goals against the Flyers, as their PK units gave up six goals on 12 chances during three road games on the West Coast last week.
Ghost’s two-point effort took a bit of the sting away on Tuesday.
“It’ll get you going for sure. If you’re scoring a goal you get a little excited,” Gostisbehere said. “But you got to stay within yourself, not get too excited and just keep playing simple.”
