The Arena Football League is no more.
AFL commissioner Randall Boe released a statement Wednesday announcing the league has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and is ceasing operations.
The league, which played its first season in 1987 and had six teams in 2019, had suspended local operations in October. It was unable to find a solution to achieve financial viability.
Wells Fargo Center hosted the Philadelphia Soul, who joined the AFL in 2004 and won ArenaBowls in 2008, 2016 and 2017.
