Arena Football League files for bankruptcy, ceases operations

The Arena Football League is no more.

AFL commissioner Randall Boe released a statement Wednesday announcing the league has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and is ceasing operations.

The league, which had six teams in the 2019 season, had suspended local operations in October. It was unable to find a solution to achieve financial viability.

The Philadelphia Soul, who played their home games at Wells Fargo Center, joined the AFL in 2004 and won ArenaBowls in 2008, 2016 and 2017.
