Amaro: Phils likely done with major moves

The Phillies have one spot open on their 40-man roster and it will probably stay that way heading into spring training.

Its unlikely well be signing anybody else to a major-league deal, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said on Friday. We like the club we have heading into camp.

Any further additions to the teams spring-training roster would likely come on minor-league contracts.

The teams reluctance to give any more major-league deals this off-season could spell bad news for reliever Brad Lidge, who is still a free agent and is seeking a big-league deal. Lidge and his representatives have stayed in touch with the Phillies and other clubs all winter.

The Phils major-league roster stands at 39 so they have room to add a player before opening day. Any additions beyond that would require moving a player off the roster.

Outfielder Scott Podsednik and pitcher Joel Pineiro, both major-league veterans, lead a host of non-roster players that will be in big-league camp on minor-league deals this spring. Both could be intriguing candidates for a spot on the Phils opening day roster.
