Before Game 1 of the NLDS, the Phillies got some good, as expected, news: Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday wont be in the lineup but will be available to pinch hit if needed, according to Tony La Russa. Hollidaywho hit .296 with 22 home runs and 75 RBIs this seasonis dealing with tendonitis in his right hand.Matt Holliday is one of the top hitters in the National League, Charlie Manuel said. I think any time hes not in the lineup, they might be losing a little offense.
Shortstop Rafael Furcal, however, will be play and hit lead-off for St. Louis. Furcal is coping with a hamstring strain.
At the end of the workout, after Rafael had pushed it, he said hes 100 percent good to go, La Russa said, so he goes.
