A makeover for a Phillies minor-league affiliate

The former number one overall pick finally made his big league debut in 2020 after four years in the minors. Will he be anything but a depth player next season? Jim Salisbury doesn’t think so.

One of the Phillies' minor-league affiliates has undergone a makeover.

The Class A Lakewood BlueClaws of the South Atlantic League are now the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. The name change was announced Wednesday as new logos, caps and a home jersey were unveiled.

The BlueClaws will remain at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ for at least 10 more years through 2031, per their ballpark lease agreement with the township.

The BlueClaws did not play in 2020, nor did any minor-league team because of the pandemic. Chris Adamson, 32, was set to enter his first season as manager after three seasons managing in the Australian Baseball League.

Former Phillies draft pick (9th round in 2014) and Temple alum Matt Hockenberry will enter his second season as the BlueClaws' pitching coach in 2021.
