Live updates on Phillies, MLB trade deadline rumors and buzz

The MLB trade deadline was absolute chaos in the days and hours leading up to Friday, so we ventured to keep tabs on every developing rumor in our tracker below.

It was completely insane.

Here's a rundown of the big stuff from Friday:

A familiar face returns to Philly!

The Phillies pull off a buzzer beater deal with the Orioles, bringing back former starting shortstop Freddy Galvis, a source tells NBC Sports Philadelphia:

Bryant heads out West to play with Gabe

No Kris Bryant-Bryce Harper reunion in Philadelphia: the Cubs are sending their star third baseman to the Giants, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports:

The Phillies make moves!

The Fightins get into the fray, acquiring RHPs Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy from the Rangers, a source tells NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury:

Why the Phils sat out Kimbrel

The Phillies "loved" the idea of going after Cubs reliever Craig Kimbrel, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury, but the Cubbies wanted coveted 19-year-old Phils pitching prospect Mick Abel, and it sounds like that wasn't happening:

NL East rivals bulking up

The Cubs are having a fire sale ahead of the deadline at the NL East-leading Mets are trying to take advantage. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Metropolitans are in talks with Chicago to try and acquire Cubs shortstop Javier Baez:

Update: the Mets pulled it off, ESPN's Jeff Passan is reporting.

That's a whiff on Kimbrel

NBC Sports Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury reported earlier this week that the Phillies were looking at Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel as a pie-in-the-sky option, but the price was high. Now Kimbrel is reportedly headed to the White Sox:

Could Buxton be the guy?

MLB insider Jon Heyman is reporting that the Phillies are interested in Twins center fielder Byron Buxton, but they're not alone. Buxton has played just 27 games this year because of various injuries but is slashing .369/.409/.767 with 10 HR and 19 RBI in those 27 games.

Gibson might not come cheap, but...

If the Phillies are serious about pursuing Gibson, they might have to pony up. The Dallas Morning News's Evan Grant is reporting the price could include Spencer Howard... but the Phils could also end up with Ian Kennedy, a 36-year-old relief pitcher with 16 saves and a 2.51 ERA this year:

Phillies in on Rangers' Kyle Gibson?

The Phils are reportedly pushing for RHP Kyle Gibson, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand is reporting. Gibson is a 33-year-old with a 6-3 record and a 2.37 ERA this year. Gibson was actually drafted by the Phillies back in 2006.

A small move to start

The Phillies began Friday's movement with a swap of minor-leaguers with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Phillies picked up lefty reliever Braeden Ogle in exchange for catcher Abrahan Gutierrez.
