Polanco leads NL third basemen in all-star voting

WASHINGTONPlacido Polanco is leading National League third basemen in all-star voting, according to the first batch of results released by Major League Baseball on Tuesday.

Polanco, who ranks fourth in the NL with 66 hits and ninth in batting average at .317, had 724,724 votes. Atlantas Chipper Jones ranked second at third base with 540,168 votes.

Polanco, who was an American League all-star with Detroit in 2007, was the only Phillie leading at his position.

Jimmy Rollins (454,782) ranked second at shortstop behind Colorados Troy Tulowitzki (975,777).

Chase Utley (561,585) was third among second basemen, behind Cincinnatis Brandon Phillips (837,778) and Milwaukees Rickie Weeks (562,071).

Carlos Ruiz (354,680) ranked fourth at catcher behind San Franciscos Buster Posey (785,314), Atlantas Brian McCann (633,987) and St. Louis Yadier Molina (595,576).

Ryan Howard (521,440) ranked fourth at first base behind St. Louis Albert Pujols (988,784), Cincinnatis Joe Votto (806,346) and Milwaukees Prince Fielder (540,269).

Shane Victorino ranked seventh among outfielders.
