Sixers sign rookie forward Shawn Long to contract

Shawn Long is sticking around with the Sixers for at least a little while longer.

The Sixers announced Thursday they have signed Long, whose 10-day contract was set to expire Thursday, to a contract.

Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports Long's deal is guaranteed for the remainder of this season and partially guaranteed for the next two seasons.

Long, a rookie out of Louisiana-Lafayette, where he was the Sun Belt Conference player of the year last season as a senior, has appeared in four NBA games this season. He's averaged five points and three rebounds in eight minutes per night.

The 6-foot-9 Long played 39 games with the Sixers' D-League affiliate in Delaware before his call-up to the NBA. In 39 games with the Sevens, Long averaged 20 points and 11 boards en route to earning a D-League All-Star Game nod.

With the Sixers' sudden shortage of big men, Long could get an extended look over the team's final 16 games.
