While some of his offensive counterparts were getting together to toss the football around last week, Asante Samuel kept busy this past weekend by helping to build a single mother a home down in Liberty City, Florida. Samuel's foundation teamed up with Habitat for Humanity on the project, which NBCMiami wrote about.
Samuel started his Bring it Home Single Moms Foundation to
provide low-income single mothers with the opportunity of affordable
home ownership. The concept was inspired by Samuel’s own experiences,
growing up the son of a single mom and seeing the sacrifices single
mothers make to provide their children with better opportunities.
It's always interesting to see which charity's star athletes choose to help out and why. One thing is clear though, Asante isn't one of the lower level NFL players struggling for cash during the lockout. After the contract he signed, he should still have plenty of cash to put towards quality causes such as his foundation.
