2016 Shining Star Award will be presented by
Brayden Schenn of the Philadelphia Flyers to
Carter Powell
Carter and his twin sister Bryn were born after only 27 weeks. Fortunately, they spent only a short time on oxygen and were able to go home after just six weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Their development proceeded as scheduled — until they became mobile. Carter was doing the “army crawl" but used just his arms. He began physical therapy and at 18 months was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. He continued regular therapy and was accepted into the Shriners Hospital for Cerebral Palsy clinic.
Now in sixth grade along with Bryn, Carter plays hockey for the Palmyra Black Knights and recently spent time with Flyers forward Brayden Schenn.
