Eagles scout former Baylor WR Gordon

The Eagles were among several NFL teams with a scout watching the individual workout of wide receiver Josh Gordon in Houston on Tuesday, a league official said.

Gordon is one of eight players eligible for the NFLs supplemental draft, which is scheduled for Thursday.

The supplemental draft is an annual summer draft of players who were ineligible for the previous year of college football because of disciplinary or academic reasons.

Gordon played with Robert Griffin III at Baylor in 2010 before being suspended after a drug arrest. He spent last year at Utah, but did not play football.

Teams wishing to draft a player in the supplemental draft submit an email to the league expressing in what round they are willing to draft that player. The team with the highest bid -- using the regular draft order -- is awarded that player, but loses a pick in the equivalent round in the following years draft.

Gordon, who stands 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, caught 42 passes for 714 yards and seven touchdowns for Baylor in 2010, with big games against Kansas (4-for-161, two TDs) and Kansas State (7-for-141, two TDs).

Gordon and Baylor teammate Willie Jefferson were arrested on misdemeanor marijuana charges in October 2010 after they were discovered by police sleeping in a car at a Taco Bell drive-through in Waco.

Gordon played at Baylor under Art Briles, who coached Kevin Kolb at Houston and coached at Texas A&M under Mike Leach, a close friend of Marty Mornhinweg.

The Eagles have drafted two notable players in the supplemental draft -- Hall of Famer Reggie White in 1984 and likely Hall of Famer Cris Carter in 1987. They also took Oklahoma State running back Charles Crawford in the first round of the 1986 supplemental draft.

According to those who watched the workout, Gordon pulled up injured after his 40-yard dash but continued the workout. He ran a 4.52 40, did a 36-inch vertical leap and 13 reps on the bench press. Hes expected to go in either the second or third round of the supplemental draft.

Although the Eagles attended the workout, held at the Texans practice facility, it would be a surprise if they used a future third-round pick on a receiver when they already have DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant and Riley Cooper on the roster, plus rookies Marvin McNutt and Damaris Johnson, along with Chad Hall and Mardy Gilyard, who both have NFL experience.
